Add-on products “often sold by companies outside of the industry” appeared high in the league table - FOS
Insurers and brokers have escaped blame as add-on products topped the customer complaints league, according to exclusive data from the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS).
Mobile phone insurance had the highest number of complaints upheld with the FOS finding in favour of the customer in more than two thirds of cases.
Other add-on products such as travel insurance and card protection insurance also appeared high in the league table.
The FOS said it reflected the fact that add-on policies were often sold by companies outside of the industry, such as travel agents and mobile phone sales people, who did not understand the intricacy of the product or the exclusions contained in the policy wording.
