’He is a highly experienced underwriter with proven leadership credentials,’ says chief underwriting officer

Arch Insurance International has named James Barrett as its new head of cyber and healthcare.

Barrett has been interim head of cyber since October 2024, with predecessor Marcus Breese having departed for HDI Global UK and Ireland.

In addition to this, Barrett continued in his role as head of healthcare, a role he has held since 2018.

Arch has now decided to merge the two roles into one, with Barrett taking the lead on this on a permanent basis.

Responsibility

As head of cyber and healthcare, Barrett is responsible for leading the underwriting activities across both the cyber and healthcare portfolios, delivering on Arch’s strategic objectives for these business lines.

Based in London, he reports to Mike Lay, chief underwriting officer of long tail lines.

Lay said: “Barrett is a highly experienced underwriter with proven leadership credentials. He has excelled as interim head of cyber and his appointment to lead both the cyber and healthcare teams is a natural step.

”These are core business lines and he will play a leading role in further increasing our relevance through the delivery of creative, responsive and effective underwriting solutions.”

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.
