’We look forward to her leading us forward into the new era of insurance broking,’ says new appointee

Biba has revealed that Caroline Barr will become its new chair.

Barr will take over the position from Jonathan Evans, whose tenure finishes at the end of the year.

The appointment was announced by Biba chief executive Graeme Trudgill during his opening keynote at the 2025 Biba Conference on 14 May 2025.

She takes on the role after spending six years on the main Biba board. Before this, she was a director at HM Treasury and a member of the Financial Services Consumer Panel.

Trudgill said: “Barr has already been a guiding light on our main board and we look forward to her leading us forward into the new era of insurance broking.”

Barr added: “I am extremely proud to have been offered this position, albeit that Evans will be sorely missed when he leaves.

“He did fantastic work for the association during his tenure and I want to continue the momentum that he built. There is still much work to be done.”

Evans tribute

Evans has been in the role for the last six years. Before this, he was a former MP, MEP and minister responsible for insurance.

Trudgill paid tribute to Evans during his keynote speech, saying that “he has guided us through significant challenges”.

“[This includes] five prime ministers and helped us navigate the complexities of the Covid period. He has been a wise owl and a voice of reason.

“Thank you sincerely for your invaluable contributions.”
