Brown and Brown snaps up South Wales broker

Brown and Brown Europe has struck a deal to acquire South Wales insurance broker R McGee, a statement released today (12 December 2023) said.

Established in 1974, R McGee is a personal and commercial lines family-run broker and is based in Maesteg, Glamorgan.

It is led by managing director Andrew McGee, alongside his wife and son – Julie and Simon McGee – who serve as directors.

As part of the deal, the broker’s office will remain in place and the entire team will become part of Brown and Brown.

’Compelling picture’

The deal has received regulatory approval and the purchase price remains undisclosed.

Andrew McGee said the “family ethos” of Brown and Brown was “apparent” in the team’s discussion with Hartigan, which was an “important factor” in the broker’s decision to sell.

“Matt painted a compelling picture of the opportunities ahead for ourselves and our customers and clients and we’re excited to be a part of it,” he added.

“We’re looking forward to putting our future and those of our customers into the hands of Brown and Brown.”
