Burge also sent his Allianz colleagues a goodbye message on LinkedIn

James Burge has confirmed his new role at Hiscox after departing Allianz earlier this month.

It was announced in October 2024 that Burge would be departing Allianz following 24 years with the insurer.

Burge, who was most recently head of counter fraud at Allianz Commercial, officially left the firm on 3 January 2025.

He has now confirmed that his new position at Hiscox will be group head of fraud and recoveries.

Goodbye message

In a Linkedin post announcing his departure from Allianz, Burge said that it was ”hard to believe how fast the time has flown”.

He joined Allianz in 2000 as a motor underwriter and ended up holding a range of senior underwriting roles with the business. Burge took on his most recent role in 2018.

”I want to give a huge thanks to everyone who has supported me, worked alongside me and shared this journey,” Burge said.

”I’ve had the privilege of learning from some amazing colleagues and forming friendships that will last long after today.

”Looking forward to the next challenge, but always with fond memories of Allianz and the great people I’ve worked with.”

Insurance Times has contacted Hiscox for comment on his new position.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
