She takes up the role of non-executive director
Admiral’s former UK insurance chief executive Cristina Nestares has joined Aviva as a non-executive director.
Nestares stepped down from her position at Admiral in October 2024, following eight years in the role.
She has now been appointed to the board of Aviva Insurance Limited, the legal entity within the group that controls its UK and Ireland general insurance business.
The appointment was made yesterday (2 June 2025), with a filing submitted to Companies House confirming the move. Aviva also confirmed the hire to Insurance Times.
Stepping down from Admiral
Nestares joined Admiral in 2005 to set up the group’s Spanish business and took on her most recent role in 2016.

She decided to step down last year to spend more time in her native Spain.
She said: “It has been a privilege to lead the UK business for the last eight years. The business is filled with incredible colleagues who have been key to the growth and diversification of the business.
“I’ve had the honour of holding a range of leadership roles within the group and I’m really proud of everything our colleagues have delivered for customers and our commitment to always do the right thing for them.”

His career began in 2019, when he joined a local north London newspaper after graduating from the University of Sheffield with a first-class honours degree in journalism.
He took up the position of deputy news editor at Insurance Times in March 2023, before being promoted to his current role in May 2024.View full Profile
