She takes up the role of non-executive director

Admiral’s former UK insurance chief executive Cristina Nestares has joined Aviva as a non-executive director.

Nestares stepped down from her position at Admiral in October 2024, following eight years in the role.

She has now been appointed to the board of Aviva Insurance Limited, the legal entity within the group that controls its UK and Ireland general insurance business.

The appointment was made yesterday (2 June 2025), with a filing submitted to Companies House confirming the move. Aviva also confirmed the hire to Insurance Times.

Stepping down from Admiral

Nestares joined Admiral in 2005 to set up the group’s Spanish business and took on her most recent role in 2016.

She decided to step down last year to spend more time in her native Spain.

She said: “It has been a privilege to lead the UK business for the last eight years. The business is filled with incredible colleagues who have been key to the growth and diversification of the business.

“I’ve had the honour of holding a range of leadership roles within the group and I’m really proud of everything our colleagues have delivered for customers and our commitment to always do the right thing for them.”

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
