’His leadership will be pivotal in guiding our investment in technology and people,’ says broker director

Markel has appointed Mike Petchey as its new head of schemes.

In his new role, Petchey will lead the schemes team and be responsible for enhancing the insurer’s approach to schemes through collaborative and sector-specific propositions.

He will report to Jo Sykes, Markel’s UK broker director.

Sykes said: “Schemes are integral to our profitable growth strategy and Petchey’s leadership will be pivotal in guiding our investment in technology and people.

“His efforts will ensure that schemes remain prominent on brokers’ agendas, while aligning closely to our specialised, sector-driven strategy.”

Experience

Petchey steps into his new role following six years in senior development positions at Markel.

Most recently, he served as the head of corporate accounts, where he contributed to formulating Markel’s schemes strategy and building broker partnerships across the UK.

“Petchey’s promotion is a testament to his dedication in fostering long-term partnerships with brokers and his extensive technical expertise,” Sykes said.

Petchey added: “I’m proud to lead such a talented and experienced team at a time when schemes are increasingly an important part of our profitable growth strategy at Markel.

“We’re committed to delivering solutions that stand apart in the market and helping our brokers grow their businesses.”
