’There is a clear opportunity in the specialist home insurance market,’ says underwriting director

Caledon Group has expanded its insurance portfolio with the launch of Caledon MGA UK and Caledon MGA Ireland.

The new MGAs will specialise in home insurance risks that fall outside the appetite of standard insurers, targeting properties and circumstances that require individual underwriting consideration.

Caledon said the businesses combine specialist underwriting expertise with A rated insurer capacity and have been built around a broker-focused model.

As part of the launch, the group has developed a dedicated online quotation platform designed to streamline the placement process for brokers, while also providing direct access to underwriters for more complex cases.

Appointments

The launch coincides with the appointment of Toby Daley as underwriting director at Caledon.

Daley joins with more than 35 years of market experience, including roles as home underwriting director at Brown and Brown Europe and a decade with Hiscox.

He said: ”There is a clear opportunity in the specialist home insurance market for an MGA with the underwriting expertise and breadth of appetite to take on complex and unusual risks that can be difficult to place elsewhere.

”The strength and experience of the team was a major attraction for me and we have a shared ambition to build a distinctive, market-leading offering in the specialist home insurance market, valued by brokers for our underwriting expertise, responsiveness and service.”

Meanwhile, David Whitaker, who previously led Plum Underwriting, will serve as managing director of the new MGA business.

Whitaker said: “The launch of our two Caledon MGA businesses marks an important strategic development for the group and gives us a strong platform from which to develop a differentiated specialist home insurance offering.

“Our independence, the collective extensive experience of our team and our underwriting expertise are central to what we are building.”
