History: Towry Law was founded in the City of London in 1958 by its current chairman the Hon CTH Law. The company was floated on the London Stock Exchange in 1993.

The group has grown rapidly in recent years through the acquisition of a number of businesses in the UK and Far East. These include UK general insurance brokerages as well as Matheson Investnet (from Jardine Matheson) in Hong Kong and the financial services arm of Hogg Robinson, Advizas in January 2000.

In addition, the group has been extending its branch network in the UK and overseas has recently opened offices in Japan, South Africa, Cyprus, the Middle East and Europe.

The company provides a complete range of general, healthcare, health and safety consultancy, and life and pension services to its substantial private client and corporate client base. The group has 30% of the FTSE 100 companies as clients as well as a substantial number of SME corporate clients.

Biography: Douglas Black's responsibility is to determine the groups overall strategic direction and ensure that all divisions operate effectively and increase shareholder value. Previous work history includes Rea Brothers (finance director), Price Waterhouse (management consultant), SGL Communications (group finance director), Standard Chartered (group accountant) and KPMG.
