The AA is looking to launch a theft and total loss motor product.

AA Insurance Services managing director Andrew Briscoe said it had been looking closely at the claims experience for the customer. "We have identified some areas we need to improve," he said.

"We offer a courtesy car when a vehicle is being repaired and we offer uninsured loss recovery (ULR) services but not theft and total loss cover. We are very keen to close that gap."

A spokesman added: "We are looking to improve the speed of claims settlement and the provision of courtesy cars for total loss and theft."

Briscoe said no launch date had been set.
