’Throughout the judging process, she scored highly across the board and the judges were unanimous in their praise,’ says chief executive
Insurance Times editor Katie Scott was named Journalist of the Year at the 2025 Biba Media Awards.
The association’s annual event, which is now in its 43rd year, recognises the role of the media and journalists in increasing the understanding of insurance and insurance broking.
Scott, who joined Insurance Times as its editor in 2019, was shortlisted for two categories – those being the Best Interview or Profile Award and Best Thought Leadership Award.
After winning the Best Thought Leadership Award, she was named Journalist of the Year by Biba for showing “exceptional consistency, talent and courage” in her work.
Biba’s chief executive Graeme Trudgill said: “Throughout the judging process, she scored highly across the board and the judges were unanimous in their praise.
“They highlighted how their writing not only engages the reader but demonstrates a deep and thoughtful understanding of the issues, particularly in one piece, where drawing on her own personal experience the human element of their work shone through, and highlighted how insurance is about people and solving real-life problems when they matter most.”
Scott added: “I am humbled and thrilled to receive this recognition and pick up two such coveted awards at such a prestigious event for insurance trade press.
“It means so much to me to be named as Biba’s Journalist of the Year – thank you to Trudgill and the broader Biba team for choosing me as the 2025 winner. It is a privilege to lead the Insurance Times editorial team and I am really excited about our upcoming plans and ambitions.”

Meanwhile, deputy editor Yiannis Kotoulas was also shortlisted for the Best Thought Leadership Award for his article on how vulnerable customers are treated, which you can read by clicking here.
And news editor James Cowen was shortlisted for the Scoop of the Year Award following him revealing earlier this year that Ian Donaldson had stepped down from his role at Markerstudy after joining the firm through its merger with Atlanta. You can find out more by clicking here.

His career began in 2019, when he joined a local north London newspaper after graduating from the University of Sheffield with a first-class honours degree in journalism.
