’His experience in the legal, investment banking and insurance industries brings a breadth of perspective and leadership that can address clients’ needs innovatively,’ says chief executive

Aon has appointed Piers Johansen to lead its UK M&A and transaction solutions (AMATS) business.

Johansen takes over leadership of the transaction advisory division after holding a number of senior roles within the business since joining Aon in 2015.

Based in London, he will report to Michael Carr, chief executive of AMATS for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (Emea).

Carr said: “Helping clients to identify and capture value in event-driven and portfolio situations through Aon’s risk capital and human capital capabilities is core to the AMATS business strategy.

”Johansen’s experience in the legal, investment banking and insurance industries brings a breadth of perspective and leadership that can address clients’ needs innovatively.”

Experience

Before joining Aon, Johansen built a career spanning legal, investment banking and corporate transactions.

He worked as an M&A lawyer at Skadden, including a two-year secondment to The Takeover Panel, before joining JP Morgan’s investment banking division, where he served as managing director and associate general counsel.

In his new role, he succeeds Anka Taylor and Ian McCaw, who have jointly led the UK AMATS business for the past two years while continuing to hold client-facing leadership roles across Aon’s transaction advisory and M&A insurance operations.

Rob Kemp, chief executive of commercial risk in the UK at Aon, said: “Harnessing different parts of commercial risk, as well as the wider business, is central to Aon’s strategy to go further and faster for the firm’s clients in addressing their risk and people challenges.

“Our AMATS business continues to play a key role developing new opportunities and partnering with Aon colleagues to deliver client value. I am confident that Johansen’s appointment will help accelerate this even more.”
