Insurance Times rounds up the top five stories making headlines across the market from 24 to 28 August 2026

This week’s most read story followed the news that Clear Group has acquired specialist Lloyd’s wholesale broker Newman Pearce and Partners (NPP) as it looks to strengthen its London market presence.

Headquartered in London, NPP employs 24 people and has developed a predominantly international portfolio, with around 95% of its business originating from overseas markets.

Next, Insurance Times readers learned of Lockton’s appointment of ex-Gallagher leader Louise Piper as placement director within its major accounts business.

Meanwhile, Japanese insurer Tokio Marine’s reported review of Canada’s Intact Financial Corporation as a takeover target proved this week’s third most popular story.

However, citing people with direct knowledge of the matter, the Financial Times reported that the Canadian company had been deemed too large and that Suncorp had emerged as the preferred target.

Subscribers were also keen to read that industry veteran John Elliott has joined Coversure to launch a new construction-focused broker, Elliott and Associates Risk Management.

Finally, this week’s top five stories were rounded out by Allianz Commercial’s hire of industry veteran Emma Woolley as its new president of global specialty and UK region.

Woolley brings close to 30 years of insurance experience to the role, having held senior leadership roles across underwriting, compliance, risk and governance.
