’Our members are telling us they want to understand how they can harness the opportunities presented by AI while managing the risks,’ says chief executive
Biba members can now apply to join the inaugural cohort of a new artificial intelligence (AI) training programme developed in partnership with Markel.

The Biba and Markel AI Academy will take place on 14 and 15 October 2026 at Markel’s offices in Leeds and is designed to help brokers develop practical skills for using AI within their businesses.
The first cohort will bring together a group of brokers for two days of learning, networking and collaboration focused on the application of AI within the insurance sector.
Biba said participants will also help shape the future development of the programme before it is rolled out more widely across the association’s membership.
Graeme Trudgill, chief executive at Biba, said: “Our members are telling us they want to understand how they can harness the opportunities presented by AI while managing the risks. That’s why an AI training school is one of our key 2026 Manifesto commitments.
“The Broker AI Academy aims to give brokers practical skills they can put to use immediately, helping them become more efficient and spend more time supporting their customers.”

The initiative forms part of Biba’s 2026 manifesto commitments and follows growing demand from brokers seeking guidance on how to adopt AI while understanding the associated risks.
Simon Johnston, marketing director for the UK at Markel, said: “AI has the potential to fundamentally change the way brokers work, but the opportunity is about much more than technology. It’s about helping brokers use AI to save time, deliver more value for clients and create new opportunities.
“We’re delighted to be working with Biba to turn its manifesto commitment into a practical programme that is shaped by brokers and designed around their real world needs.”
