Insurance Times takes over this year’s league to pick out the insurance sector’s funniest and strangest team names
Was that first gameweek of 2026/27’s Insurance Times Fantasy Football League everything you hoped for?

Given how many of you captained Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes against promoted Hull, only for the Red Devils not to score a single goal, maybe not.
There were a number of surprises over the opening weekend, including Brighton’s 4-0 drubbing of Aston Villa and the fact that over 750 UK insurance professionals have rejoined us for this year’s league.
It’s also a bit early to be making title predictions, but it is lovely to see a mix of new and familiar faces topping the league. James Whelton’s Cesc on the Beach currently lead with 98 points, while Allianz Commercial’s Darragh Kennedy – who has named his team Defcon Denayer – is in joint second with 89 points.
Joshua Day’s Jaissle I Can Boogie rounds out the top three, in joint second, with one of my favourite names in the league. Who doesn’t live a bit of Baccara?
Best team names
Before GW2 kicks off this afternoon with Manchester City’s visit to Crystal Palace, we thought we’d round up some of the other best names in the league.

Insurance is a sector not often singled out for its humour and, to be fair, some of your names are absolutely terrible.
A special shout out to Insurance Times news editor James Cowen, who has flexed every creative muscle in his body to come up with the rip-roaring James FC. It’s magical Fletch.
Some of you have tried a little harder, however, and there are some corkers in there.
Morrison Andy, although apparently unable to enter his names in the right order, has gone for I’ammm the 1 And-oni. Great idea for a new Liverpool chant that. Chesney Hawkes now honourary scousers?
Keeping with the new Liverpool manager theme, Gavin Gatter has also opted for Iraolacoaster. Liverpool fans will hope that’s not a case of nominative determinism.
Matthew Pinnock has my pick of the bunch with his Arsenal winger pun. Tzolis and Gromit is what he opted for, but I don’t think he’ll be needing any more cheese.
The last thing I thought I’d be reminded of when looking through these was the FCA, but Adam Dunford did bring the regulator to mind with his name. Let’s hope Gross Misconduct is taken as seriously in the league as as it should be in the market!
