The ABI has taken a firm line on policies where travellers refuse to fly during terrorist alerts.

The association has revealed it will accept excuses for not flying only if there is strong evidence from the Foreign Office to warn against travel.

An ABI spokesman said: "There has been a threat to the UK for 18 months since the government decided to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the Americans after 11 September.

"The latest security measures are intended to ensure the safety of travellers and to keep the airports open.

"There will be no refunds of you decide not to travel."

The ABI's Malcolm Tarling said: "War risks, in any case, are normally excluded from holiday insurance policies."
