Ethical insurance firm Ansvar has strengthened its senior management team to pave the way for electronic trading.

The Eastbourne-based company, which became an independent subsidiary of Ecclesiastical Insurance last year, has invested heavily in information technology.

Newly-appointed general manager Paul Godfrey, who was formerly e-commerce manager for Ecclesiastical, will spearhead Ansvar's move towards full EDI trading by the middle of this year.

Ansvar has restructured its front-line insurance operations under

a single management team, headed by Mark Ingram, to ensure its intermediaries are served effectively.

Ingram said the electronic trading exercise was likely to begin with Ansvar's household policies before its commercial lines products.

He is supported by John Hollick as underwriting manager and Ian Sadler as field operations manager. Martyn Fletcher becomes finance and administration manager.

They are likely to be joined by a new product development manager. Godfrey said the appointments are "part of our strategy to devolve more authority to underwriters and field staff to our partnership intermediaries".

Ansvar, which employs more than 50 staff, is primarily concerned with the non-profit-making sector, providing insurance for churches, community groups and charities.
