Investigations into allegations of bid-rigging and compensation practices at Aon and Willis are beginning to mount.

Reports today said the probe is an outgrowth of the investigation by New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer.

Aon said Connecticut attorney general Richard Blumenthal had issued a subpoena on 25 October 2004 seeking information on whether Aon had engaged in bid-rigging.

Aon also said that several state insurance regulators have sent the company either subpoenas or information requests about its broker compensation practices.

Willis Group reported it had received subpoenas from "insurance commissioners and attorneys general of other states," which Willis did not name.

Willis said it "is cooperating fully with these investigations and is producing documents and other information in response to these subpoenas."

The world's third largest insurer said it expected more lawsuits related to its compensation arrangements, but it should not materially affect materially affect its bottom line.
