Broking giant Aon has extended its business continuity contract with global technology firm SchlumbergerSema.

The move means SchlumbergerSema will become Aon's only supplier of business continuity plans. Under the deal, Aon will be able to add new disaster centres across the UK.

Aon completed the deal ahead of forthcoming FSA rules which demand that insurers have robust disaster recovery plans to minimise business interruption.

Bobby Deegan, director of compliance at Aon said: "With regulation of general insurance by the Financial Services Authority (FSA) in 2004 and the current environment, we felt it was crucial to centralise our business continuity planning processes.

"We have always been impressed with the geographical spread of SchlumbergerSema recovery centres as they fit well with our office locations."

John Kersley, vice president of Business Continuity, SchlumbergerSema said: "We are pleased that Aon is confident enough in our business continuity success to entrust more of their disaster recovery planning to us."
