Aon is to be sued by the reinsureds involved in the collapsed Aon 77 energy lineslip, according to industry sources.

When Aon's energy lineslip collapsed it caused an estimated $90m (£56.8m) of losses, of which around $60m (£37.9m) is understood to be disputed by the reinsureds.

Negotiations have reportedly failed so the reinsureds have decided to sue Aon. The case is scheduled to take place next summer in the High Court.

An Aon spokesman could not confirm or deny the reported losses.

Jane Owen, head of law at Aon UK: "We are one of several parties to the litigation, having been joined at a late stage in the action by certain cedants. Naturally, we cannot possibly comment other than to say that any liability on the part of Aon has been denied."
