It may be riddled with Alkali Silica Reaction (ASR), also known in the construction industry as 'concrete cancer', but such a small detail did not stop the Architecture Foundation awarding the Lloyd's building the accolade of the City of London's finest construction. Backchat hopes this award comes as some consolation to Deka, the German investment company that bought the building from Lloyd's in 1996. It now looks stuck with London's finest construction after a recent attempt to sell the building for £240m was thwarted due to the dreaded ASR.
