Insurance Times editor Andy Cook was voted best journalist writing for a general insurance publication at last night’s ABI Financial Media Awards.

Judges said: “He has changed the shape of Insurance Times with a very incisive style”.

Features reporter Michael Faulkner was shortlisted for up-and-coming financial jounalist. Faulkner was the only journalist writing for a business magazine to make the three-strong shortlist in the category which is dominated by the national daily papers.

“He is not afraid to ask tough questions and as a result always gets a good story,” said the judges.

Faulkner was voted Biba young journalist of the year earlier this year.

Former Insurance Times reporter Yvette Essen, who now writes for The Daily Telegraph, was shortlisted for business/City journalist of the year.

Insurance Times was also shortlisted as general insurance publication of the year in the awards that are voted for by the press officers of insurance companies.

Judges said: “Insurance Times always has an eye for a new angle and is on top of industry developments.”

The recognition follows that of the Periodical Publishers Association (the industry body for the entire magazine publishing industry) which shortlisted Insurance Times for business magazine of the year from over 80 entries in 2002 and shortlisted Cook for business magazine editor of the year in 2003.
