Could Backchat be among the first to offer a warm welcome to Stephen Haddrill. Rest assured the new director general of the ABI will always find a spot on our back page when merited.

While on that subject, Backchat hears a little rumour about the induction regime at the industry's premier trade body.

Turns out that along with being given a posh new business card and finding out where the tea bags are kept, newcomers to the ABI (not all from the Treasury you understand, Haddrill was latterly at the DTI), are being given a two week 'introduction to insurance' course.

One would hope that it is followed up with improved and intermediated courses.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
