Offenders prefer points or bans to remedial training
Plans for remedial training for poor drivers, included in the 2006 Road Safety Act, won’t work because drivers do no believe they need training research for the Department for Transport has found, the Telegraph reports.
Drivers with between seven and 11 points on their licence and those facing a ban could be offered the course.
Rather be banned
Research called "Offenders and Post Court Disposal Courses" found some drivers would rather take the points or ban rather than attend courses.
"The results of the interviews do suggest that these more serious driving offenders see their penalties as a result of bad luck or overemphasis by society on motoring offending rather than due to illegal or dangerous driving on their part.
"Thus when there is damage or an injury involved it is often interpreted as the fault of someone or something else," the report noted.
