President Bush has urged congressional leaders to adopt legislation to protect the insurance industry from losses from future terrorist attacks.

Bush asked House and Senate lawmakers working on the legislation to reach agreement soon, saying that a lack of affordable terrorism insurance was costing hundreds of thousands of American jobs.

Both the House and Senate have adopted measures to make terrorism coverage available at affordable prices by limiting the liability of the industry.

But the House and Senate have been arguing over a provision that would limit the ability of terrorism victims to sue for punitive damages.

President Bush has urged the committee to reach agreement by Friday, which could enable legislation to be passed before Congress soon.
