Cape plc has agreed a compensation settlement of £7.5m for the 7,500 employees suffering from asbestos-related diseases.
According to a statement from lobby group Action for Southern Africa (ACTSA), the compensation will be paid in one instalment, by 19 March, and has been made in conjunction with another settlement by Gencor Ltd, a South African company which acquired a number of Cape operations in 1979.
Gencor will pay an additional £3.21m to the Cape claimants who were exposed to its operations.
ACTSA said the settlement brings justice to the 7,500 claimants but does not allow for compensating beyond those already registered in the case.
ACTSA added: "The settlement includes no provision for rehabilitating and clearing the asbestos dumps still surrounding many communities in South Africa."
Royal and SunAlliance (R&SA) announced on Tuesday that a settlement had been agreed with Cape but said it could not disclose the final settlement sum.
