Carole Nash, the motorcycle specialist broker, reported profits marginally higher in 2002 than the year before.

The company, based in Altrincham, Cheshire, made profits before tax of £1.18m in the year to 31 October 2002.

This compared to £1.15m the year before, when the company took a £462,000 exceptional charge due to the collapse of Independent Insurance.

Including the exceptional charge, the company's 2001 result showed a pre-tax profit of £692,000.

Independent's failure also generated a £20,000 cost in 2002.

The company's turnover increased during the year to £15m from £11.6m the year before, while the cost of sales increased to £346,000 from £184,000.

It scrapped its dividend payments in 2002 from a total of £210,000 the year before.
