Ooooooh no! Churchill Insurance is in the doghouse after its flagpole fell on an unlucky chap who was passing by the company's HQ in Bromley.

Magistrates slapped a £10,000 fine on Churchill and ordered it to pay £2,300 costs. The victim suffered bruises to his legs.

The pole was on the ninth floor and was positioned on the directors' balcony area, before it crashed down to the street below. It had been in place since 1999, but risk managers had failed to recognise it was a potential hazard.

After the howler, it was announced that Churchill Court as the building is known - will remain pole free.
