Backchat was amused to hear this week about a scam involving a dog, a freezer and a dodgy pet insurance claim.

Apparently, a punter found a dead dog in the street and thought it would be a great wheeze to carry it home and deposit it in his freezer while putting in a claim on his pet insurance policy. Fortunately, the canny insurer put a vet on the case and he proved the claim was bogus as the dog hadn't completely thawed out.

Clearly the moral is to ensure that your fake pet is free of icicles before making that insurance claim...

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.
