Many of the UK's major insurers are discriminating against unmarried couples leaving the four million adults that now cohabit out of pocket, according to Direct Line.

Discounts on car insurance have traditionally been offered to married couples. Direct Line claims that some insurers charge between £50 and £100 extra on the Direct Line price for an average premium for a cohabiting couple in their mid thirties.

But, Direct Line argues, "looking at the actual risk,
policies for couples, married or cohabiting, should actually be cheaper not more expensive than policies for individual drivers."

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
