The hull value of the Air China passenger jet that crashed into a mountain in South Korea on Sunday was approximately $21m (£14.6m), a market source has said.

The Boeing 767, carrying 167 passengers, was attempting to land at Kimhae airport when it was blown into the mountain by strong winds. Only 39 people survived.

The source added that the plane's insurance had been placed by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) under a policy that was renewed last October. It is believed that Willis and Marsh arranged the cover for the People's Insurance Company of China, backed by reinsurance from Lloyd's managing agent Amlin.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.
