A survey by Card Protection Plan (CPP), the credit and payment card protection company, has found only 25% of Britons think they should insure their credit or debit cards.
This is despite evidence that credit card fraud is on the rise.
CPP chairman, Hamish Ogston, said: “In March 2001, APACS reported a 24% rise in fraud on lost and stolen credit cards with the value of this fraud now equating to almost £100m.
“It is alarming that most Britons will take the unnecessary gamble of failing to insure their plastic.”
The survey of 2,000 people also found 84% considered their home to be their most valuable and insurable asset.
This was followed by cars, 64%, and families, 52%.
