Snooker fans are getting their fill this week with almost 24-hour television coverage. Some may even have bought the theme tune with its distinctive revved-up guitar riff.
Did you know that the tune was created by none other than Doug Blanks, former managing director of disaster management group Ark and General? As a struggling student in the 1960s, he decided songwriting would be an easy way of making some quick cash.
"I knocked on the door of the manager of the band 10cc and said, `I have talent'. He listened to some of the songs I had written and then gave me £1,000 to write a Eurovision song and a snooker theme tune.
"He didn't think the first one was good enough for Eurovision - which I took as a compliment."
