High street insurance provider Hill House Hammond (HHH) is warning football fans they run the risk of receiving a 'red card' from their insurers because of the World Cup.

This is because fans are stocking up on new technology prior to the competition, including widescreen televisions and video players which could be worth up to several thousand pounds.

This means customers' contents values are rising so they must ensure their insurance cover is updated to allow for this.

So HHH are warning customers that they must inform their insurance providers of any additional items bought in order to avoid future penalties.

Head of communications Alexandra Lovesey commented: "We all hope England do us proud in Korea and Japan. It is understandable that those fans who can't afford to travel will go out and buy top of the range TVs to watch the matches with enthusiasm and style. We would just urge fans to tackle their insurance cover before sitting down to watch Goldenballs and his team."
