Employers failing to provide hands free car kits for mobile phones could face prosecutions on health and safety grounds from December, warned legal expenses insurer DAS.
Solicitors at DAS said bosses who `cause or permit' employees to make business calls while driving will be vulnerable to criminal prosecution.
The new laws, which come into effect from 1 December, provide for on-the-spot fines of £30, rising to £1,000 if the case goes to court. They apply to the employer as well as the driver.
DAS said there was also the potential for imprisonment for corporate manslaughter under future legislation.
Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
