New sanctions to punish sexist firms

Greater balance needed in European regulationa says Lord Adair Turner

The European Union (EU) has watered down its proposals to impose a quota that 40% of European non-executive boards should be female by 2020.

The updated plans will state that EU member countries will have to punish companies that favour male candidates over equally qualified female candidates, according to City AM.

The changes are the result of the EU coming under fire from companies, womens’ groups and European member states.

Sources in the European Commission leaked the news to the press.
