The European Parliament has voted to launch an inquiry into the regulation of Lloyd's between 1978 and 2000, if the European Commission does not publish the finding of its own inquiry before the deadline of 15 November.
Hundreds of Lloyd's Names are seeking compensation for the millions lost during the market's near collapse in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The Names claim that the government did not comply with European law about regulating insurers.
The Parliament has received requests for an investigation from many of the Names who lost money, and Conservative MEP Roy Perry has been campaigning on their behalf.
