The Federation of European Risk Management Associations (Ferma) has developed an online training scheme for business people and other professionals who have little or no experience in systematic risk management.
The training programme encompasses a day of face-to-face instruction by experienced risk management practitioners and interactive, online modules.
Ferma is working in collaboration with national risk management associations from France (AMRAE), Germany (DVS), Italy (ANRA) and the UK (Airmic), as well as two educational bodies, the UK based Institute of Risk Management and the University of Verona, Italy.
PRORIM will be launched in autumn 2006 at the Ferma seminar on 11 October in Brussels. Initially, the programme will be available in English, French, German and Italian.
After release, it can be translated into other languages so as to spread best practice in risk management throughout Europe.
Research published in November 2005 by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales supports the potential value of PRORIM.
It found that small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in the UK are not doing enough to protect themselves against business risks. Of those surveyed, 40%-50% lacked formal procedures for measures ranging from identifying risk to reporting back to the board.
