FirstAssist, the healthcare business founded by a management buyout from Royal & SunAlliance, is to set up a nationwide network of physiotherapists.

The network has been formed through a deal with health services firm, Sona, which will expand FirstAssist's facilities.

Sona currently provides a range of fitness services through its physiotherapy centres around the UK. The company also plans to open 16 sites by the spring of 2004.

Steve Wood, managing director, FirstAssist said: "This is an exciting area for us, as the demand for physiotherapy continues to grow. FirstAssist clients will all benefit from our innovative approach, which includes a UK network of over 300 accredited physiotherapists, in addition to Sona's facilities.

"Localised pricing, quality assurance and a consistent level of service for all employees make a huge difference to the proposition we can take to our clients. We look forward to working with Sona to enhance the service they provide and to staying ahead of the changing healthcare needs of our customers."

K Doyle, Sona group finance director, said: "We are currently investing heavily in developing our physiotherapy activities, with plans to be the leading supplier of such services in the UK outside the NHS. Our relationship with FirstAssist will be key in achieving this aim."
