The majority of fleet owners do not account for the risk of driving under the influence of medicines in their policies. That's according to a Risk Answers survey.

Sales director of Risk Answers Jeremy Hay said: "This becomes a big issue at this time of year because of hay fever remedies many of which should not be taken by people who are driving.

"The effect of medicines on reaction times can be the same as alcohol and this needs to be taken more seriously."

Hay said fleet organisations only considered the implications of drink driving and driving while using banned substances in their policies.
