Legislation rushed through Parliamentary today

The government looks set to push through the flood and water management bill before Parliament is dissolved on Monday.

The bill’s remaining House of Lords stages will be dealt with in approximately half an hour today, after which it will be sent immediately to the House of Commons.

There MPs will consider the amendments made in the House of Lords to the legislation, which is expected to be law before the end of the day.

The floods bill is one of a number the government and opposition have agreed to expedite under the procedure known as the ‘wash up’ which happens when Parliament is dissolved.

The legislation implements the Pitt review's recommendations to create a better and more comprehensive system for managing flood risk.
