Fortis is piloting its first e-market portal Polaris-compliant household product with Software Solutions Partners (SSP) with a view to rolling it out in July.

The move is part of SSP's plan to develop a Polaris compliant household panel that will include AXA, Royal & SunAlliance, Norwich Union and NIG.

SSP operations director Laurence Walker said: "We are building a panel of insurers that supply us with Polaris-compliant products, which we can add to our Polaris-compliant system.

"For a broker, it means he can offer a customer a building policy from one insurer and mix and match that with a contents from another. This way the customer can get the perfect package."

SSP is also calling for other insurers to start developing Polaris-compliant products. So far, it is working with

NIG to develop commercial vehicle and motorcycle policies, which Walker said would be ready in a "couple of months."
