FSA chief executive John Tiner is reported to be meeting New York attorney general Eliot Spitzer to discuss allegations of bid rigging and improper commissions in the US insurance industry.

Reports said Tiner would meet Spitzer in New York to discuss whether the lawsuit would spread beyond Marsh & McLennan to include other brokers and underwriters.

He is also reported to be highlighting concerns coming from the UK that the case could spark a global break-up of Marsh, which is one of the biggest firms in the London market.

Reports said the FSA was particularly keen to be fully briefed on the possible impact of the Spitzer probe on UK brokers ahead of taking responsibility for regulating the UK practices in January.
