The FSA has called on insurers to ensure that their intermediaries are authorised.

Speaking at the Insurance Institute of London, FSA chief executive John Tiner said: "It is incumbent upon insurers to ensure all their intermediaries are going to be authorised, or appointed representatives, or they will have to take back in-house any ongoing service obligations, or transfer them to another, appropriately authorised, intermediary."

Tiner also stressed that brokers needed to get their application forms in early to ensure that they will be processed in time for January 2005.
