Loss adjuster GAB Robins has revealed plans to close seven offices — in Carlisle, Ayr, Edinburgh, Bradford, Guildford, North London and Birmingham — by the end of 2003.

The loss adjuster said the move is linked to a push towards more remote working through a new area communications network.

In a statement the adjuster said: "The closure of offices and the transferring of work to other locations will inevitably impact some of our people.

"Wherever possible we will offer staff the opportunity to relocate. Where this is not practical or desirable for the individual it may unfortunately result in redundancy. We will be doing everything we can to keep this to a minimum.

Derek Coles, GAB Robins managing director of loss adjusting commented: "Further investment in technology reflects our long term commitment to the loss adjusting market. This has enabled us to streamline our operations with the overriding objective of enhancing client service as well as prudently managing our costs in order to deliver improved value for our clients."
