John Maguire led an ‘impressive’ turnaround of the Glasgow office

AXA’s Glasgow branch manager John Maguire has announced his retirement after 34 years at the insurer.

Maguire has been running the Glasgow branch since 2005 and has also managed the Carlisle, Newcastle and Leeds branches.

AXA’s managing director of commercial intermediary Matthew Reed said: “John has been a fantastic asset to AXA over the years and has led an impressive turnaround of the Glasgow office in my time working with him.

“Obviously we will be sad to see him go but John has worked incredibly hard for AXA over the years and deserves to enjoy his retirement. We wish him all the best and look forward to welcoming Ryan into his new role.

“This will be a fresh challenge for Ryan, but he has the confidence of everyone at AXA that he can build on the great results delivered by John.”

AXA’s current London branch sales manager, Ryan Birbeck, will replace Maguire when he leaves the business at the end of the year.

“There comes a time in everyone’s career when it is time to hand the baton to the next generation and after almost 34 years with AXA, now is the opportune time to do so,” Maguire added.

“My time at the Glasgow branch has been thoroughly enjoyable, as have all the roles I have held at AXA over the years, and I know the team in Glasgow will give Ryan the support that I have benefited from as he takes the business into its next stage of development.”
