Home premiums are set to rise in some parts of the UK as the Environment Agency published its latest flood map.

The agency said that for the first time homeowners would be able to assess whether their property was considered to be in a low, moderate or significant flood zone.

More than two million homes have been included on the map because of the extended low-risk zone.

ABI director general Mary Francis said the map was a “valuable resource”.

She said the improved map meant “property owners could take action to protect their homes and belongings; planning authorities could ensure that development did not proceed in inappropriate locations of the floodplain; and insurers could continue to help and advise their customers on the basis of the best possible information.”

The Environment Agency said many people living in flood plains were oblivious to the risks. The flood map could be used to check the likelihood of homes flooding and what type of insurance was necessary.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.
