Axa UK has announced the appointment of David Watts as a non-executive director.

Watts, 52, will replace David Nash, who resigned last month.

Watts is also a director of Fleming Income and Growth Investment Trust and had held the position of joint chief executive and chief investment officer for Gartmore Investment Management until 1999.

Transport talk
The Disaster Prevention and Risk Management in Transport conference will be held in London on October 25.

It will take place at the Radisson SAS Portman Hotel.

There will be speakers from Marsh, St Paul, Wragge & Co, plus various emergency and transport bodies.

The conference will focus on using risk management strategies to prevent disasters.

Claims check
Hastings Direct has announced the introduction of the Claims and Underwriting Exchange (CUE) register to check claims histories with customers before they start a new motor insurance policy.

The company said CUE would allow it to verify claims histories and act as a deterrent to repetitive or multiple claims.

Safe e-business with Chubb
Chubb Europe has launched insurance cover designed to protect financial institutions against losses resulting from computer and internet-related fraud.

The company, a subsidiary of NYSE-listed The Chubb Corporation, claimed CyberSecurity by Chubb for Financial Institutions was the first insurance of its kind in the UK insurance market.

The Chubb policy combines insurance for direct loss, legal liability and consequential loss to help protect institutions against the risks of e-business.

Extra cover for sports injuries
Pinnacle Insurance has launched an enhanced sports accident protection package for amateur athletes.

Pinnacle's new product development director Tony Claytor said the Extra package was designed to meet the increasing cost of sports injury treatment.

"Our enhanced policy targets sporting individuals for whom speed of recovery and return to work may be absolutely critical," he said.

The cover pays up to £2,000 for a broken or fractured bone, up to £2,500 each incident for dental work and up to £500 a month for loss of earnings.

It also covers dislocations and torn ligaments.
