Learner claimed five years’ experience to cut premium

Learner driver Dwight Johnson, 27, of Georgina Avenue, St John’s, Worcester, who told his insurance company he had been driving with a full licence for five years has been banned for six months, the Halesowen News reports

The factory worker was stopped by police driving an Alfa Romeo on the A443, in Hallow, in April, not displaying L plates.

Police checked his details and saw he had told his insurance company he had been driving with a full licence for five years.

Johnson told police he thought it might make his insurance cheaper.

He was given a £160 fine for making a false statement to obtain insurance and given a £75 fine and three points for driving otherwise in accordance with a licence.

He was also given three penalty points and a £275 fine for driving without insurance.

The six points given at Worcester Magistrates Court took Johnson’s total to 12.

Magistrates banned him for six months as they did not believe it would cause extreme hardship by being unable to drive.

He was also ordered to pay £43 in costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
