The Irish Insurance Federation (IIF) has launched a new anti-fraud campaign amid calls for new laws to tackle fraud.

According to reports, experts estimate that $108m (£67m) will be lost by the Irish economy because of fraudulent claims.

IIF president Ian Stuart said: "The law should be simplified to assist the Irish police to bring prosecutions against fraudulent claimants and those who collude with them.

"Falsification of insurance claims forms should be equated with perjury. On the civil law side, in the case of exaggerated claims, the claim should be disallowed in its entirety if the court finds that any element of it is exaggerated."
